What We Do
Reaching a Generation employs a wide variety of activities focused on bringing a message of hope to the children of South Africa.
We also partner with organizations who share our goals and values.
Core Values
RaG-US has defined core values that guide all of our activities. These are:
- We feel every young person is special and worthy of our efforts.
- Helping a child can make a positive impact on a nation.
- Integrity is foremost in all of our interactions.
- Financial Accountability is mandatory.
- We will oversee our partners and programs, to verify their effectiveness through measurable metrics.
- We consider partnering organizations to be independent agencies and will respect their donor communities.
- Partnership leverages our ability to meet the needs of children.
Activities
RaG-US activities in the US include:
- Promotion of partnering organizations who share our values.
- Fund-raising on behalf of partner organizations, accounting for those funds, and distribution of donations to partner organizations.
- Education about the problems of HIV/AIDS and AIDS orphaned children in Africa.
- Organization of Lend a Hand and Vacation With a Purpose trips to South Africa. (See Adventures)
- Administration of the LetterNetwork correspondence program connecting Mentors in the US with needy children in South Africa.
Partnerships
RaG-US partners with other organizations with similar goals for specific projects or activities. For example, a civic organization or church may partially support a small orphan care home. We may partner with them to provide extended resources, training, etc.
We have developed longer term relationships with:
- Reaching a Generation, headquartered in Mokopane, South Africa and working in numerous countries in southern Africa.
- Blessman Ministries, providing free medical and eyecare clinics for the children of South Africa. Dr. Blessman's organization is headquartered in Polk City, IL.
- Kevin Ward who directs the Lighthouse Care Centers: Hawane and Bulembu Lighthouses and the Ezulweni Teen Challenge Women’s Centre in Swaziland.
